In this blog we will take a look at a personal favourite of mine, the teak steamer chair. There are many different relaxing chairs available for your garden and outdoor area, from the ever popular Adirondack chair to our fixed teak armchairs. But, when you want to really sit back and relax, not only in style but also in great comfort, then the steamer chair is something to seriously consider.
Like all of our garden furniture, our garden steamer chairs are manufactured from sustainably sourced solid teak that comes from Javanese plantations. This timber is strictly controlled under Indonesian Legal Wood criteria and through the SVLK process. All teak used for our garden steamers carries a FLEGT certificate. Without this certificate, the timber used for teak garden furniture would be deemed unsustainable and hence cannot be exported out of Indonesia. We work closely with our sole manufacturer to ensure the teak sourced is only ever from sustainable sources. We continue to work with them to develop our products, ensuring we bring you the best quality solid teak garden furniture.
When it comes to wanting to relax in your outdoor area after a hard day at work, what better can there be than one of our teak steamer chairs. These solid teak chairs have a simple recline mechanism that is operated by simply lifting the two armrests and either leaning forwards or backwards to achieve the optimum position of comfort. There is a total of 4 different recline positions available to you, so you can get that perfect angle for relaxing and unwinding after a hard day.
Another great advantage to our teak steamer chairs is the fact that they will arrive with you fully assembled. There can be nothing worse when you have decided on the garden furniture you would like, for it to arrive in numerous boxes full of screws and bolts and needing a degree in structural engineering to put the furniture together! Not the case with our steamer chairs. They will arrive packaged either on a pallet or wrapped in bubble wrap and cardboard ready to be unpacked, unfolded and placed in that sunny corner of your garden! We use mainly cardboard and bubble wrap to package our furniture to help protect it whilst it is in transit and to also give you the ability to recycle the majority of the packaging once its not needed anymore.
Our manufacturer uses traditional joinery methods to manufacturer all of our solid teak garden furniture. As is the case with our steamer chairs, we utilise brass bolts and brackets to assemble the chair into its finished state. We have used the same manufacturer since we opened Ottena back in 2015 and continue to work alongside them to improve and tweak designs to make them better. An exciting new change for this year is that new stock arriving around mid-April will employ stainless steel fixings for any bolts or brackets that are used in our teak furniture. The brass fixings have been fantastic but we are always looking at how we can improve, moving to stainless steel fixings is the next intelligent step to make so watch this space!
If you are just looking for a single relaxing garden chair, then of course that is absolutely fine, we sell these steamer chairs individually. However, we also have a range of garden furniture sets that incorporate our steamer chairs with teak coffee tables and/or garden chair cushions. We have some stunning teak garden sets to enjoy with friends and family.
To finally top off these stunning solid teak chairs, why not add one of our steamer chair cushions. Available in 3 different colours, these cushions will elevate the comfort to another level. From cream, green and navy blue, there is a colour to suit all tastes. With simple ties these cushions can be secured to your teak steamer chair and simply removed when not needed. The covers can be easily unzipped off of the foam inserts if you need to clean your covers and these can be washed on a cool wash. They are made of a showerproof material but we would highly recommend removing your cushions if the unpredictable UK weather starts to change! These steamer chair cushions are bespoke and handmade for our range of teak steamer chairs, for the perfect fit.
We hope this will encourage you all to take a look at our solid teak steamer chairs and accompanying sets. If you have any questions then please contact us at hello@ottena.co.uk and we will be more than happy to help!
