Plaque Fitting and Care Instructions

Our brass and stainless steel plaques are a perfect addition to your teak memorial bench to provide that special message about a loved one. When you order your memorial bench and plaque, the plaque can take 7-14 days to arrive from our engraver. If you are happy to wait for your teak bench then our fantastic warehouse team will fit your plaque for you, for free! They will fit the plaque centrally on to the top rail of the back rest on your memorial bench, please notify us if you would like it fitted in a different position. Once fitted the plaque cannot be moved without leaving a couple of holes behind!

Our warehouse team will then re-package your teak bench with the plaque fitted and email you to let you know that the bench is ready to be dispatched to you.

If you are happy to fit the plaque to the memorial bench yourself then of course this is absolutely fine. We can dispatch the teak bench to you once we have your order, then once the plaque arrives from the engravers we will get it popped in the post and forwarded on to you straight away. When it comes to fitting your plaque, please ensure you follow the helpful tips below. We cannot accept responsibility for damage caused to either the bench or memorial plaque if these steps are not followed. If you are unsure in any way then please drop us an email or a call before you proceed.

Fitting Instructions:

–        Please find a suitable position for your plaque on your bench. The best place is to the centre of the top rail on the backrest of your teak bench.

–        Please ensure that you always pre-drill pilot holes (2mm drill bit) slightly deeper than the length of the screws that come with your plaque. If you do not there is the potential to snap the screws off whilst screwing them into the teak bench.

–        Place your plaque into position and carefully fit the screws. Depending on the size of the plaque you have ordered, there may be 2 or 4 screws.

Care Instructions:

–        To help keep the finish of your brass plaque, it can be cleaned using a brass cleaner such as Brasso Wadding. Clean the plaque in a uniform direction to get the shine and finish you wish to achieve, then buff with a clean cotton cloth to remove any residue. If you wish to help slow down the tarnishing process of your brass plaque a great tip is to apply a light coat of olive oil to the surface to help protect it from the elements.

–        If you have a stainless steel plaque, the best way to clean this is simply with a soft cloth, some water and a few drops of washing up liquid. This will clean any dirt or grime from the plaque. Once dry, if there are any finger prints on the plaque, then take a dry cloth and apply a small amount of WD-40 and gently wipe the plaque to help remove these marks.

We hope the tips and guides above will assist you with your memorial benches and commemorative plaques, but if you are unsure and before you commence any work, please do not hesitate to drop us an email to hello@ottena.co.uk where one of our team will be all too pleased to help you!
